Twenty-Two Bulls Achieved Five-Figure Prices At Stirling Bull Sales With The Sale Topping At 18,000gns Three Times

A packed ringside saw the sale topped three times at 18,000gns with bulls from Glenricht, Maerdy and Wensleydale.

Glenricht Verdi, Maerdy Victory and Wensleydale all top Stirling Bull sales at18,000gns 

The Charolais Society achieved a 95% clearance rate. United Auctions sold 85 bulls at an average of £9023 this was an overall sale average increase of £1046 on the previous year. Due to rising prices across the beef industry over the last year this has helped increase bull prices and clearance rates across all breeds shown and sold at Stirling Bull sales today.

The first of the 18,000gns sale toppers was Glenricht Verdi from Allan Drysdale. The intermediate bull born in April 2024 came second in its class to Maerdy Ventriloquist which sold for 10,000gns. Glenricht Verdi was sired by Caylers Gladiator which sons have previously fetched 25,000gns and his dam was from one of the herds finest foundation cows Glenricht Ola.

The sale was also topped by the overall reserve and junior champion, the youngest bull entered to the sale, was from Maerdy. The youngster born in June of 2024 achieved 18,000gns. The son of Oakchurch Samson which sons have previously sold for 28,000gns. Maerdy Victory was one of the few bulls sold to a pedigree breeder, John Jeffery, Kersknowe was victorious and will be taking youngster Maerdy Victory down the road to Kelso.The reserve junior champion from Stuart Allan, Gory Hill, Inverden Victor sold for 14,000gns to Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stromnessel.​​​​​​​​

The third and final bull which was part of the sale topping team at 18,000gns was another junior bull this time from Wensleydale. The 18-month-old Wensleydale Vinegar from Chris Timm, Honeybee Cottage, York did not leave a sour taste and sold to Declan Whyte, Hindstones. 

Johnny and Raymond Irvine's Overall Champion makes 15,00gns

 

 

Yesterdays, show stopping overall and intermediate champion Inverlochy Vincent from Johnny and Raymond Irvine was sold for 15,000gns. This was not Inverlochy Vincent’s first turn at success winning reserve junior male at the Royal Highland Show this year. The champion was a son of Caylers Napoleon and dam was Inverlochy Sally. Inverlochy Vincent was sold to James Wallace from the Claycrop herd.

The reserve senior champion Balmyle Victory sold to the second highest price of the sale fetching 16,000gns. The senior reserve dam was Balmyle Nectar and was one of the best heifers of her year and places in the top 1% of the terminal index. The senior champion Harestone Victorious sold for 8,500gns and is heading off to Udale and son, Sidewaybank, Penrith.

Bombax also had a successful day selling four of their six bulls for over five figures. Topping with Bombax Viper at 15,000gns followed by Bombax Viking at 12,000gns, Bombax Venom and Vinnie both fetched 10,000gns. A very successful pen from Grant and Mark Smeaton from Cotton of Ovenstone, Forfar.

 

Elrick’s pen topped at 14,000gns with their bull Elrick Victor which was knocked down to David MacTaggart from Douganhill Farms, Palnackie. The April 2024 bull Elrick Volt sold for 13,000gns and Elrick Vulcan for 9,500gns rounding off a successful day for the Elrick team.
